What does Cognition Studio do?
We're a life sciences creative strategy studio. We translate the science and data that shape human health, with strategy, craft, and rigor, so the right people understand it, believe in it, and act on it. That work spans research, communications, science storytelling, brand strategy, visual design, web, motion, and strategic communications.
Who do you work with?
Biotech and pharma leadership and development teams, diagnostics and novel device companies, global health foundations and research institutes, and the venture firms backing them. We partner with founders and executives, and with business development, operations, and communications leaders.
How are you different from a typical agency?
Our teams are interdisciplinary and strategy-led. PhD science writers, board-certified medical illustrators and animators, brand strategists trained in both design and business, designers, communications specialists, and technologists work together end to end, so the science stays right from first insight to finished work. Science is our first language, not a subject we translate from the outside. Our work lives squarely in knowledge translation: moving data through information to knowledge, and on to action.
Do you provide both strategy and execution?
Yes. From workshops, roadmaps, user research, and message testing, through fully produced brand, content, digital, and visualization deliverables. We take a problem from definition to idea to finished work.
What scientific and health areas do you focus on?
We go deepest in three focus areas: Science Communication, Venture Design, and One Health. We practice across diverse thematics, including oncology (heme and solid tumor), cell and gene therapy, neurodegenerative disease, women's health, global public and environmental health, infectious disease and vaccines, common diseases across cardiac, liver, and metabolic health, synthetic biology, and emerging deep tech such as novel transplantation technology.
Can you translate complex mechanisms and data?
Yes. Through strategic narratives, mechanism visualization, and data visualization that keep the scientific nuance while clarifying the decision at hand, in static or in motion. We work across a range of motion software, and we build data visualizations with code when the work calls for it.
Do you support regulated communications?
Yes. We work across the arc from discovery to commercialization, with medical, legal, and regulatory review built in, and grounding in FDA AdPromo training through continuing education with the Drug Information Association (DIA).
Do you build websites and digital experiences in-house?
Yes. We have an in-house UX and development team that builds corporate sites, web applications, knowledge and data portals, and hand-coded interactive experiences for touch and exhibit environments. Our Boston-based engineering partner, CoreSecure, handles Veeva-compliant medical information hubs and other large, CMS-based corporate builds.
How do engagements start?
Usually with several discovery calls to define the objectives and understand your goals, audiences, and constraints. From there, a concept note to confirm alignment, then a scoped plan with clear milestones, owners, and success measures.
How do you structure and price engagements?
Project-based, annual service agreements, grants, or retainer, scoped to the complexity of the work. Whatever the engagement, we build a team of experts purpose-built for your needs.
Do you work globally?
Yes. We're based in Seattle, with staff in Boston and Washington, DC, and we collaborate with teams across time zones and regions, including extensive global health work.
How do you measure success?
We define success at kickoff, shaped by the problem we're solving together, whether that's clarity, stakeholder alignment, engagement, adoption, or decision speed, and we report against it. We also talk openly about ambition: whether the moment calls for a bold shot on goal or the right measured increment, and we set expectations accordingly.
Do you offer workshops or training?
Yes. Facilitated sessions on brand development, communication frameworks, ecosystem mapping, visual storytelling, science value articulation, and co-creative methods, to upskill internal teams, build alignment, and codify the processes and knowledge frameworks you rely on.
