Summary description:

We seek to add a Junior Medical Animator + Illustrator to our award-winning Science Storytelling team. As the ideal candidate for this role, you love to craft upstream biotech/pharma/healthcare narratives through static and motion that takes form in a variety of outlets and platforms to maximize impact.

As a Junior Medical Animator + Illustrator, you will help complex health, science, and technical information, data, and narratives come to life with clarity based on artistic capability, training, and science-driven rigor. You will be supporting the development of visual solutions from concept through completion. Like other science storytellers on our team, you will touch a broad range of clients, projects, and subject matter and will be expected to work in various mediums. You will work on a team that can include science storytellers, science writers, strategists, designers, and developers. Work areas include branded science storytelling for static or motion expressed in print, digital, or experiential (e.g., workplace environment, exhibit booth).

The ideal candidate for this role is an advocate for first-rate science storytelling. You are exceptionally creative, highly visual, human-oriented, equally researched, and artistically driven. You can communicate, defend, and build consensus around a visualization’s direction and help drive areas of the experience with a sense of passion and ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Create engaging 3D animations/models and illustrations for a broad range of topics that include both organic (e.g., cells, proteins) and inorganic (e.g., medical devices)
  • Create original work while ensuring a consistent level of artistic excellence and factual accuracy (i.e., scientific credibility)
  • Create high-quality work in a deadline-driven environment
  • Work collaboratively with our team of science storytellers, writers, designers, and developers to create animations, illustrations, or interactive pieces
  • Accurately track and log time on projects using project management software
  • Lean in to help meet delivery deadlines

 

Qualifications

Required: A master’s degree in Medical Illustration/Animation from an accredited program is required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent draftsmanship to solve complex problems (e.g., concept work)
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills along with exceptional attention to detail
  • Experience with Cinema 4D (or other 3D modeling and animating package – if experience lies in another software package, must be willing to move into Cinema 4D), including organic and inorganic modeling, physics and dynamics simulations (e.g., X-Particles, thinking particles), lighting, and texturing
  • Experience with After Effects, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Experience with 3D molecular viewers (e.g., ePMV, Chimera)
  • Positive attitude, self-motivated, strong work ethic, and strong problem-solving skills
  • Capable of working independently as well as on an internal team, taking direction from a project lead
  • Ability to understand and process constructive criticism, direction, and feedback both from the client and internally
  • Demonstrate diversity in medical illustration/animation portfolio

Preferred Qualifications

A preferred candidate is actively working towards a certified medical illustrator (CMI) status.

Experience with:

  • Storyboarding
  • Zbrush and Substance Suite
  • XR technologies
